Bryan gave me this handy link today that wonderfully passed away some time today here in dreary logtown. What it is a fancy podcast that is uber user friendly. Unlike the stodgy ohh soo MS Windows software you have to download to create your own [usually to sketchy results] podcast, this does all of the work for you. Of course there are limitations, only streaming, only 12 songs at a time, and nothing over 10mb. Regardless I had fun stocking up a list of solid gold, mellow gold, and gold chains, check out for yourself here.

I recently have discovered the joys of hulu.com after trying to feed my addiction for Arrested Development with bootleg online. Much to my surprise I found it free and legal on the NBC / Fox owned site. Browsing around I found upon my new addiction: Miami Vice.
Now who said disco died in the 80s? If you ask me it may have just moved to Miami. This show is so full of style, music, sexxy cars that it just blows me away. Its disco, a couple of years later. Halston is now Versace and Armani. Vettes are now Testarosas. Coke is, well still sadly coke.

This just might be taking the entire customization trend a bit too far. But then again, its Pantone, and colorful so its worthy of a post. I actually like the concept, but I see a few pitfalls with it. First of all, as an avid fan of going to the Sunglass Hut to screw with their commision based sales associates, I would definitely have to try these on first and by the looks of the collection thus far I do not see any winners. Second, I am concerned by the overall quality to the material of the Pantone colored arms and how long they will last as you mix and match to accessorize your perfect outfit.
Regardless, I'd take it in Blue Danube that [on screen] matches my hoodie, tank and vintage Nikes I am wearing as I post.
Not that I would ever walk around in a Cyan mess. Uh huh.
Seems nowadays that you can find a brand extension of Pantone for any part of your life. First colorstrology, where I'll be damned if I am actually "Wild Rose". Then some kitchen stuff, and of course the paint. I am sure there is more if I tried.
Heres an idea. Pantone Legos. Raise those kids right!

The blog does not explain what the "custom textile" is. Anyways, if you kick it in these you'll be floatin around on memory foam. Something I'd like to give a try.
I like it. my choice would be hmmmmm the sly2mid in the greenish navy. Great simple shoes in a one of my colors that I am keeping an eye on. Check out the full collection. Great color combos, leathers, tweeds, laser etching and so on.

OK, I saved the best for last. Now that I got you all worked up, its time to cool it down with Call Me Tonight. This track may have not been a hit, but it is easily my favorite. Whenever I listen to this song I stand up, close my eyes, and spin around like drunken prom queen in the seventies. The song is that magestic.

What your looking at is the results of colorlaboration with the transportation design and engineering departments of the University of Cincinnati and yours truly for the PACE collaborative. I worked with two trans design boys to help realize the overall design and material for their appropriate cars. I left for co-op (JCPenney and General Motors) and did not get to fulfil the interior design, but the boys went on to win.
With Hummer, utility is everything. We set out to prove this point with the Hummer Silverback. A larger than life go anywhere swiss army knife designed for search and rescue. After a thorough briefing about what the Hummer brand means. We found that its more utility than 50cent. So we created the new SUV: The Super Utility Vehicle.
This project was not without its challenges. As a team there was a divide about the direction of the vehicle. This was designed in 2005, years past the prime of truck based, body on frame SUVs. Bigger is better was a sign of days past. How will this vehicle, which "apes" [pun intended] the original massive H1, be viewed socially in these eco gas-crunching times?
To mate the idea of premier utility with search and rescue we researched the top hospitals, then looked at adventure sports. What resulted was the Silverback. Something that after all of the personal struggles, I am quite proud of. In fact, I see a lot of the color and material that we implemented into the design into the latest Hummer Concept, the HX.
On the exterior we wanted to replace some flash with some business. The chrome was updated with brushed aluminum accents to give more of a utility feel. The windows are made of electro-chromatic glass to offer privacy to the patients being tended to within. The paint? A gigantic risk. Some people thought of the Mantis green as a feminization of a masculine vehicle. I felt that it brought this gigantic vehicle down to a believable, and more conscious scale. The paint is flat for easy repairs to scratches and also blended with a glass bead coating that offers a high amount of illuminosity for detection under the harshest situations.
The interior is all about sanitation and simplicity. The floors are covered with an epoxy grip to reduce slips. The seating is made of berry stitched antibacterial wovens with mantis green leather headrests. Bungee cords were used to easily and quickly store needed goods. The rest of the interior was finished in smooth lacquer, chrome and brushed aluminum.

The return of the muscle car. As a team we revived the revered GTO nameplate with all the muscle car heritage that defined an era and a brand. This time with a twist. Even in 2015 we saw the new CAFE restrictions for 2020 upon us, so this "Goat" is propelled by the future: Hydrogen fuel cells.
This is not your daddy's Pontiac. A new consumer is fast approaching. Men that are more sophisticated than ever. This car is for the avant garde. Someone who knows style, who knows technology, and who knows how to impress.
But what about that throaty V8? The fanboys will be crying foul. We responded by tuning ourselves to the senses to create a emotional connection with the car. In result we replaced that verbal exhaust note with a color and light show to connect the driver with the exhilaration of speed. How did we execute such? Simply the faster you go, the hotter the color. The higher the RPM, the more intense the light.
On the outside we took inspiration from the classic Pontiac Silver Streak and implemented a polished aluminum racing stripe from fender to fender. This polished aluminum stripe would also act as a catalyst to bring the interior speed lighting strategy to the outside as it reflected what was going on in the interior to the outside, thus letting everyone know just how many horses you are running. We also the sheetmetal with Machined Metallic that gave off a deep gunmetal finish. To finish things up we tinted the windows red, a sporty color, and to further bring Pontiac's branding into our car.
On the inside we wanted to embellish the idea of the color and lighting. First the IP was made of backlit translucent resin that emitted light and color in response to the engine speed / rpm. On the seats, we chose materials that evoke responses to this lighting. Three different leathers were applied: shiny paten leather, smooth full grain leather, and a full grain leather with an intricate geometric pattern laser etched into it. We also extended the "Silver Streak" racing stripe with its polished aluminum to the inside to help carry the lighting to the exterior.
Its easy to say that the Mazda Furai concept that premiered at the Detroit Auto show is no less than epic. I mean look at these flowing lines! It looks like a beached manta ray that got some tattoos in Venice Beach. Mazda really has something going on with its latest "Nagare" collection of concepts. These have to be the most innovative surface detailing I have seen in years. The team keeps one-upping the last show with a new "flowing" take on different auto segments. The juxtaposition of control vs. turbulence is artistically portrayed through the mixture of taut and fluid lines. A call out to the team from Irvine though. Its time to actually bring this to production. Can we say rebirth of the effin Testarosa?
Anyways where am I going with this? I got linked to an article at nytimes.com about young automotive designers. Much to my delight, this beast was penned by a 32 year old. FYI in car-land thats like a zygote compared to the old guard. The article highlights a handful of designers including the "feather" inspiration for the color and trim designer of the Lincoln MKT and handbag inspiration to the steering wheel to the Caddy CTS. Alas! a feature of Gary Ragle, lead designer for Mitsubishi, and also a fellow DAAP grad!
